AQUATIC CENTER COMPETITION POOL

Located on the first floor of the CRC, the 50-meter competition pool is enclosed for year-round use. Originally built for the 1996 Olympic Games, this award winning pool includes 10 lanes, a separate diving well, spa, and seating for more than 1,900 spectators. Home to the Georgia Tech Swimming & Diving Teams, classes, sport club practices, and local team practices are also held in the facility as well as recreation swim during posted hours.
COMPETITION POOL
  • 10 lanes - 50m x 25m
  • Temperature – 79-80 degrees
  • 3m deep with a movable floor

(12.5m x 25m) to zero depth (deck level)

  • 1.08 million gallons of water
  • Two movable bulkheads
  • Omega Timing system with electronic starting and scoreboard
  • Seating for 1,950 spectators
  • The Photovoltaic (PV) system on the roof produces Direct Current (DC), which

is converted to Alternating Current (AC) and fed into the Georgia Tech power grid for campus use.

  • The Solar/Thermal system on the roof supplements the steam heat exchanger

system to heat the competition pool. Pool water is pumped from the competition pool, through the panels on the roof, and then back down into the pool circulating system.

Speed: Why our competition pool is one of the fastest in the world.
  • Depth, the deeper the faster
  • Ability to control water flow (slows

circulation back into the pool to reduced turbulence)

  • Deep gutters to reduce the

amount of water splashing back into the pool

  • Larger/wider lane lines to reduce wave action created by swimmers
Diving Well:

The diving well includes one meter and three meter spring boards and a complete dive tower as well as a spa located adjacent to the diving well. See posted hours for recreational diving use.

  • 13' - 17' deep (3.9m x 5.1m)
  • 680,000 gallons of water
  • Sparger air bubbling system
  • Three 1meter spring boards
  • Three 3meter spring boards
  • Tower with 1m, 3m, 5m, 7.5m, &

    10m platforms
