This course is the required certification for employment as a Lifeguard at Georgia Tech. In addition to Lifeguard training, this course also includes CPR and First Aid. Intermediate swimming skills are necessary. Ellis and Associates, Inc. is an international aquatic risk management service. Bring swimsuit and towel to every class.
Course Prerequisite: Participants must be able to swim 100 yards, tread water without the use of your arms for 1 minute and retrieve a ten (10) pound brick from the depth of seven (7) feet.
Participants will be tested on the following skills during the first class:
a) Swim continuous crawk or breaststroke - 100 yards
b) Feet first surface dive to 8 feet deep, retrieve 10 lb block,
bring to surface
c) Tread water without using arms for 1 minute (rotary kick
preferred)
Materials needed:
a) Textbook will be handed out first day of class
b) Bring a pen and/or pencil each day
c) Bring a swimming suit and towel each day - you will be very
active while learning skills in the water, so wear an
appropriate swim suit
d) Bring an extra towel and a change of clothes - we do get in and
out of the pool more than once in a day, come prepared.
