How do I get involved?

Intramural teams are created through common bonds within the community at Georgia Tech:

  • Friends
  • Resident Halls (contact the CA on your floor)
  • Campus Organizations (Clubs)
  • Sororities or Fraternities (the individual Greek organization's Sports Chairman or President will have information)

Individuals without a team

If you are not affiliated or do not have contact with any of the above, there are several outlets which an individual can use to become a member of a team. The Intramural Program will assist in every way, but will not place anyone on a team. The options are as follows:

  • Contact the Intramural Office (404.894.9984)
    • Click on our Free Agent link
    • Attend the Registration Meeting to receive a registration ticket for online access
    • Go to some Intramural games and ask around. Women's teams, specifically, are always looking for new players.

Does Intramurals cost anything?

YES. The cost for each team varies, depending on the nature of the sport and costs associated for that sport. Most sports cost between $40-$50.

Are there playoffs and if so, what teams get to play?
  • Each league division will send its top two teams to the playoffs. Teams must have a minimum sportsmanship rating average of 2.75 to be eligible for the playoffs.

  • The seedings in the playoffs are determined by each team's rating score

  • The Open Leagues (Fraternity, Graduate, Housing, and Independent) will have a league-specific tournament

  • The top two teams from each league tournament will advance to the School Championship tournament, with the winner being named School Champion

  • The Co-Rec League and Women's League will play in one tournament each. There is no distinction made for Independent, Fraternity, or Sorority.

  • The Recreational League offers no tournament

What are the Sportsmanship Ratings?

These are ratings per game administered by the Intramural Supervisor and officials. Game conduct and behavior are taken into consideration when given. The rating also has input in teams' rankings.

Protest Policy

Protests will only be accepted when challenging a rule interpretation. Judgment calls CANNOT be protested.

  • All protests must be made to the supervisor on duty immediately following the play in question. Once another play has occurred, the protest becomes invalid.

  • The supervisor will stop play and log the protest on the game sheet. Once the protest has been logged, play will resume.

  • The team that files the protest must call the Intramural Office the next day to set up an appointment with the Assistant Director for Intramurals.

  • The respective team will be required to bring a check made out to "Georgia Tech" for $10.00. This is a protest fee and must be dropped of to the Intramural Office before 12PM the following day of the incident..

  • If the ruling is overturned, the check will be returned and the game will be rescheduled, starting from the point that caused the protest.

  • If the incident had no bearing on the outcome of the game, the check will be returned but the game will not be rescheduled. This is in the judgement of the officials, supervisor, and Assistant Director for Intramurals.

  • If the ruling is denied, the final outcome stands.

What is the ranking system and does it determine playoffs?

The ranking/seeding system does NOT determine whether a team makes the playoffs. It does determine where a team who has made the playoffs is seeded. This automated program ranks teams based on win %, total offense, total defense, sportsmanship and opponents win %. However, the highest ranked, third-place team in each league will be added to the playoffs as a wild card. For more information, please click here .

If my team makes the playoffs, what playoff bracket will we play in?

A team has to make the playoffs based on the same requirements, regardless of what division or league they play in. They will be placed in the appropriate bracket, based on the league they play...with one exception. If a team is in a division that is different than their organizational status, they will moved to that league's playoff bracket. As an example...if Fraternity Team A is in an Independent division (due to fraternity divisions filling up) and they make the playoffs, they will be moved to the Fraternity bracket and seeded according to their rating score

How do I sign up a team?

Team captains must attend the Registration Meeting to be able to register a team during the online registration period. If a team does not have representation at this meeting, he/she must wait until late registration. Registration is usually the day after the Registration Meeting.
